Mother-In-Law Beating: Social Media Outrage

When Lero Pat came to give her account of her ordeal yesterday, she looked battered, bruised and struggled to open her eyes to recall those horrific moments.  But it was something that she no longer wanted to hide. She said enough was enough, and wanted to expose the man behind the beating.

Today, the public through Social Media expressed outraged at the actions of a learned man, especially when the Law on Violence Against Women was already in place. They posted various comments on Facebook page, Sharp Talk, questioning if the law could provide justice for women, especially when most women hesitate to report such matters to police.

The incident comes at a time when the nation still awaits feedback on the investigations into the alleged rape of a 16 year old girl by Wewak-based policemen and the alleged unlawful detention of a woman activist at the Wewak police station last month.

Meanwhile, Boroko Police Station confirmed that the matter has been reported, and as a serious assault case. Criminal Investigations will be conducted by Police CID that will hopefully lead to the arrest of the named Prominent Lawyer.
