by Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

Emergency Response Team representatives from the country’s mining and petroleum companies were in Madang on 6 March, for a meeting and to inspect the sites and facilities for the 2015 National Mining Emergency Response Challenge (ERT).

Venues for this year’s events in Madang will be the Divine Word University and the PNG Maritime College.

This year’s ‘Emergency Challenge’ will consist of seven events covering practical and theory knowledge in all aspects of emergency response, namely theory, firefighting, search and rescue, endurance, vertical rescue, hazmat and multi-causality.

The delegation was very impressed with the resources, facilities and support they received in Madang, and looks forward to a professional challenge in 2015.

ERT representatives who attended the meeting in Madang were from Oil Search, Morobe Mining Joint Venture, Lihir Gold Mine, Tolukuma Mine, Fire Rescue South Australia and the Mineral Resources Authority.

The challenge provides participating teams the chance to display their rescue skills on different types of equipment and simulated emergencies.
