The Minister for Finance and Tari Pori MP, James Marape, revealed yesterday that he has received death threats.
The threats are treated seriously, and is now a police matter. Police investigations are establishing leads.
Minister Marape held a Media Conference this afternoon he can no longer keep quiet about the threats.
Over the past two weeks, the state Minister has received at least 13 life threatening text messages to him, his wife and children.
The messages are reportedly over ongoing politics in Hela Province and LNG benefit funds.
The Minister asserted that he was not intimidated by the threats. He said there was no place for such things as threats, intimidation, and violence in the 21st Century in Papua New Guinea.
As a result of similar threats to the lives of other national leaders, and government officials in the country, Minister Marape is now looking at a moratorium on the sales of firearms.
He also wants the Compulsory SIM Registration Policy to be strictly observed by all mobile phone dealers in the country.
In the meantime, Minister Marape has called on members of his family and tribe to maintain peace as he allows the law to take its course.
