Police on Manus Island are investigating a murder case after residents in town found the body of a young adult floating near the Pukpuk Bridge in Lorengau’s Ward 1.
Manus Provincial Police Commander Alex Ndrasal told EM TV from investigations, the deceased was struck on the head with a piece of timber during a brawl.
Ndrasal said two suspects have been apprehended, while another three are at large but are known to police. One litre of home brew was found floating beside the deceased.
In an unrelated incident, a man from Pak Island lost his left arm while receiving knife wounds to his right hand and forearm.
The suspect is from Baluan Island and is known to police. Officers are yet to establish the cause of both incidents.
In a family dispute that turned ugly, a young man from Loniu village doused his aunt’s house in petrol and set it alight in a fit of rage over the weekend.
No one was hurt in the fire. The owner of the house reported the matter to police who attended but could not save the house.
Police say all these crimes are related to consumption of homebrew and marijuana by youths in town.
