Police have apprehended a main suspect in relation to the robbery and killing of a security guard at Gerehu’s Bismillah Shop in Port Moresby last fortnight.
The suspect was picked up last week by police in NCD following a tip off from the public. He is now in police custody.
The security guard was killed with a single gunshot to his chest when he tried to stop robbers from escaping during the hold up on the 10th November.
He was rushed to Gerehu St John’s Clinic but died later. The general public is now encouraged to provide police with information that may lead to more arrests and police are confident more suspects will be identified soon.
In the meantime, transportation and lack of manpower are two main challengers for Gerehu police. The station has around 20 police officers who patrol the Gerehu area on two different shifts.
Common cases reported at the Gerehu station include wife bashing, robbery and drink driving.
