Madang FC Coach: Crowd Violence a Concern

By Shane Soraya – EM TV Sport, Lae

Four goals by Lae City Dwellers ensured victory for the home side, over a gallant Madang FC, but crowd violence after the second half equaliser by Sammy Hiob, disrupted the flow of the match, and changed the momentum of the game.

These comments were made by Madang FC Coach, Francis Moyap, highlighting previous concerns by other members of the soccer fraternity that Lae, needs to do more to ensure better control over its supporters.

With the opening goal scored by defender Lee Wabing, early in the second half, the home side Lae, boosted the already packed stadium. It was not until Hiobs’ reply six minutes later, that stones and other projectiles started being thrown onto the field.

The match stopped for almost fifteen minutes, as security personnel attended to the crowd violence, and spectators scrambled for cover.

Three more goals by Lae City sealed an emphatic victory and set a new record in the Telikom National Soccer League Competition.
