The Lands and Physical Planning Department have issued a warning to land buyers in Port Moresby to follow proper process of buying land to avoid land disputes.
This follows the current disputes in Port Moresby that have seen settlers being evicted from land they claimed to be the title holders of.
In an interview with the Secretary for Lands and Physical Planning, Romilly Kila Pat, he said land buyers and investors must be wise in dealing with land that is customary owned.
While Port Moresby has seen a massive growth in private property development in the last five years, Secretary Kila Pat said landowners and land buyers must be wise in selling and buying land.
“Towns and cities are expanding, development is coming in a faster rate so I’m encouraging them (landowners & buyers) to be ready for these changes,” Kila Pat said.
He encouraged land buyers to seek advice from the department before buying land.
“At the end of the day it should be a win-win situation that landowners and land buyers benefit from,” Kila Pat said.
