A woman who was featured in February last year on EMTV’s Tok Piksa program, after she was displaced during a clash at Lae’s Limki settlement was also evicted on Friday.
Seve Eric was collecting water at nearby Bumbu river after her home was destroyed during fights at Limki settlement.
She and many others were rebuilding their lives after moving out from a care centre.
Today, Seve and her young family are homeless again because their home has been destroyed. They have been camping on site since Friday’s evictions.
Limki’s traditional Landowner, John Ngandang said on Friday that he has titles to the land and can remove the settlers.
He said he wants to reclaim back his land after continuous law and order problems that include several killings.
“This is not an eviction, its a law and order problem that needs addressing,” said Ngandang.
The Ahi Landowner, John Ngandang explained during the evictions that he was taking back the land to develop into real estate, affordable housing.
“Its time we build affordable housing for the young generation.”
It comes when middle-income earners Papua New Guineans search for affordable housing amidst the High Cost of living in Lae City and those with land are fast looking to invest into property development.
