Contracts were signed today to the tune of K227 million for the rehabilitation and concrete surfacing of Lae City roads.
Contracts have been awarded to Dekenai Construction, Shorncliff and East West Construction. The contracts were signed today at the Government Haus between the Works Department and the contractors.
Works Minister, Francis Awesa, was satisfied that the contracts were finally signed for the Lae City roads.
He said the delay in fixing these roads was something beyond their control and blamed bureaucratic red tape.
He further said the delay was also due to a change in the designs of the road from asphalt surfaces to concrete surfaces.
He challenged the successful bidders, to ensure they do their work on budget and on schedule.
The roads to be rehabilitated include Telikom Road, Igam Barracks Road, Orion Road, Rigel Road, Milford Haven Road Junction to Bumbu Police Barracks, Butibum Road from China Town Roundabout to Markham Road Junction, Boundry road to Buimo Road, Cassowary Road, Malaita Street and Jawani Street and Busu Road from Malahang IFC Gate to Bumayoung Market.
The total contract value of these roads stands at K227 million and will be spread over two years.
Mr. Awesa will be in Lae tomorrow with the contractors to see the roads.
