Lae Residents Experience Low Water Pressure

Lae city residents may continue to face low water pressure until the end of the week after one of the bores, used to pump up water stopped working yesterday.

Water PNG’s Senior Manager in Lae, Martin Bigiglen says the bores need a consistent power supply in order to pump water however due to the continuous blackouts experienced in the city, one of the bores had stopped working.

There are seven bores in Lae, only four are working.

With only three bores working, there is not enough water produced to meet the city’s demand of 1,300 kilolitres/hour. Instead, only 630 kilolitres/hour is being produced resulting in low water pressure in the city.

In the meantime, water rationing is required to ensure distribution continues despite the shortage.

Mr Bigiglen says the water pressure may go back to normal at the end of the week.
