Hundreds gathered at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium in Lae to pay their final respects to the Lae paediatrician who was brutally murdered two weeks ago.
Dr. Alphonse Rongap’s family held his funeral service yesterday to commemorate his life before his body is flown to his home province, East Sepik, where he will be finally laid to rest.
Dr. Rongap was serving as a paediatrician at the Angau General Hospital before his death, and is survived by his wife and two children.
Two weeks ago, Dr. Rongap drove along the back road area of Lae to drop off a family member when armed men attacked him.
He was rushed to the Angau General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
After the funeral service, Dr Rongap’s body was taken to the Angau Hospital for a final tour of his former workplace.
On Thursday his body will be flown to Port Moresby before travelling onward to Wewak, where he will be taken to his home village in Angoram.
