The National Government has begun talks with the Morobe Provincial Government to create the Lae City Commission.
Prime Minister, Peter O’Neil, was in Lae yesterday to meet with Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru and Provincial Assembly members.
Governor Naru was still disappointed that his PEC was initially by-passed, but he agreed to discussions in the next several weeks.
A meeting in Lae yesterday between the Prime Minister, Peter O&rsquO’Neill, Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru, and other MP’s started talks to create an administrative authority called the Lae City Commission.
For the Last several Weeks, members of the PEC have gone against this idea, again expressed frustration yesterday while they waited for the meeting to end.
Concerns have been raised about financial support for service delivery to rural districts around Morobe.
But, Prime Minister, Peter O&rsquO’Neill says a commission is for the best interest of foreign investment.
He says funding for the commission will come from the National Government.
“The funding coming for Lae City Commission is coming from the National Government”, he says.
Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru has agreed on discussions to follow in the next several weeks.
“The issue simply started as a result of a piece of paper falling off a truck somewhere in Waigani,” he says.
But he was still disappointed that his Provincial Executive Council was by-passed.
Much of the blame for the by-pass has been leveled on Lae MP, Loujaya Kouza, WHO’says discussions were at NEC level.
