Kompiam Gold Mine: Landowners battle over land rights

A lucrative alluvial Gold Mine at Kompiam inthe Enga Province is nowthe centre of landowner rivalry and court battles.

Two land owner groups, one is fighting in court while anther group has brought in Mining Company, Nan JianPNG Holdings tothe scene.

They were successful in grantingthe court orders to stop futher mining activities untilthey comply withthe terms and conditions ofthe mining act.

Their lawyer said whilethe court orders are very clear anther company is carrying out alluvial mining activities onthe same land withthe same licence.

Betthe Chinese company, NijianPNG Limited clariflied thatthey are operating legally and with a new exploration licence.

They are already into six weeks of harvesting top alluvial gold onthe Kwoekam gold prospect area.

The landowners say anther group of landowners broughtthem into operate and notthem, whenthey are also supposed to be a party.
