Koiari LLGC President, David Ogi, is disappointed that the review of the Kokoda Track Authority is going to be carried out by the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA).
This has not gone down well with Mr. Ogi, who believes the review should involve the Kokoda Track Board members, the Kokoda LLGC presidents, the Central Provincial and Oro Provincial Administration Representative, the Chief Executive Officer of PNG TPA, and two Kokoda Track Landowners Representatives.
“We need to consult everyone involved,” said Ogi.
While welcoming the timely review of the Kokoda Track Authority, Mr. Ogi said the review must be done independently, to capture the real interest of the people.
Ogi said the KTA is established under the LLG Act, thus the local level government must play a role in the review rather than being left out in the dark.
He added that KTA management has been continuously struggling to operate by collecting trek fees while distributing part of these fees annually to Kokoda LLGC Wards within its KTA proclamation.
“This is for maintenance and repair purposes,” said Ogi.
