Kimisopa still MP, Aihi to challenge court’s decision

The election petition against the Member for Goroka, Bire Kimisopa has been dismissed by the Goroka National Court on Tuesday.

Judge Mekeo Gauli said he was not impressed with certain evidences of the petition.

The petitioner, Tom Nunue alledged that the MP had put extra ballot papers in his strong hold area of Hegu village.

Nunue was the runner-up in the Goroka Open seat.

Meantime, Court declared null and void Minister for Education and Member for Kairuku-Hiri, Paru Aihi says he does not accept the decision of the National Court.

Mr Aihi said the allegations made by the petitioner were all upon assumptions.

Ousted Education Minister says the Court’s decision to remove his powers from him as a Member of Parliament is at a wrong time.

He said the decision of the court will have an effect on the programs of schools throughout the country who have invited him to attend their graduations.

Aihi said he will be challenging the decision in a judicial review at the Supreme Courts.

While the position is vacant now, Vice Education Minister and Member for Naweb, Gisuwat  Siniwim, will act on the position.
