Kavieng and the rest of PNG has great potential in generating huge revenue from the tourism industry, but only if the government is fully committed.
This was the message from Fijian investor, Bob Lowres, who visited New Ireland Province recently upon invitation by Kavieng Open Member, Ben Micah.
Mr Lowres says if the Government is totally committed, PNG’s tourism industry will see new heights.
Bob Lowres is the owner of Naisoso Island Resort, a world class tourist destination in Fiji.
He visited Kavieng last week, and was thrilled with the untapped potential PNG has in the tourism industry.
On his tour, he had the opportunity to address the Kavieng District’s Joint Budget and Planning Priority Committee.
Mr Lowres says if the PNG Government is serious with tourism, there will be opportunity for more revenue to be generated in the long run. He says addressing airfares by subsidizing, fixing infrastructure and increasing domestic and international flights, will see tourists flocking into the country.
Kavieng Open Member and State Enterprise and Public Investment Minister, Ben Micah, applauded Mr Lowre’s comments and described tourism as a sleeping giant in PNG.
Minister Micah will be consulting Mr Lowres on a temporary basis to assist and make Kavieng into a tourism hub in PNG.
