The New Ireland Provincial Government has achieved anther milestone in its bid for autonomy.
It’sthe signing ofthe Kavieng Airport Project to upgrade it to an international airport. This will mean Kavieng Airport will be anther alternative fromthe Jackson’sInternational Airport.
The Kavieng Airport Project is one ofthe autonomy agenda for the New Ireland provincial Government captured inthe Malagan Declaration.
The Minister for Civil Aviation Steven Davis has finally inkedthe deal yesterday withthe provincial government for the project to begin this year.
Kavieng Airport will be upgraded to anInternational Airport. A vital infrastructure as New Ireland Province strives for full autonomy.
Mr. Davis called for commitment and cooperation from both parties to get this project going.
Provincial Administrator, Monovi Amani, saythe provincial government is excited about this challenge.
The existing runway will be extended 3.4m in length and 365.67 meters in width to meet international standards. An estimated K4 million is needed for land release and compensation payment before construction could begin.
