Karawa Village Concludes Soccer Competition on High

Karawa Village Vamolea Soccer Association held its Grand Final on Saturday, December 5 with Rikwana Wairau defeating Paiga Kele 2-1. 

Paiga Kele was first to score, but Rikwana quickly leveled the scoreline with a goal from their champion forward and striker, Ila Pouna.

Pouna scored his second goal in a penalty awarded in front of Paiga Kele. 

A local boy and the major sponsor of the grand final, Rex Rivu Alo, officiated in kicking off the soccer final.

He also awarded the shield to the champion club, including awards to the best players of the season.

The best and fairest player of the grand final was Ila Pouna from Rikwana.

Other awards include diving flippers, spades and bush knives costing K3,500 were handed out amongst the players.

Alo also provided a new netball ring and awards for the town’s netball grand final.

He said he is happy to by giving something back to his village people.

He acknowledged the breed of raw talent at the village level and plans to sponsor a team a team from Karawa to participate in future competitions in the city.

The local member for Rigo Open, Ano Pala, also contributed K3,000 towards the soccer grand finale.
