Kainantu MP dismisses allegations of sorcery involvement

The Kainantu MP and vice minister for state enterprises, Johnson Tuke, has dismissed allegations that he was involved in sorcery.

Mr. Tuke dismissed the allegations at a public forum yesterday in Kainantu town.   Since being elected, there have been widely circulated rumors that he paid sorcerers to kill members of other clans who massacred 14 of his people 2011.

Kainantu has struggled to prop up its battered image. The town has a massive drug problem and a high incidence of serious crime. Last year, the 14 people were attacked and killed after a dispute over money.

Also last year, criminals overran the town and forced the deployment of additional police.

Mr. Tuke has since facilitated the transfer of 20 new officers to Kainantu.
