PNG Sports Foundation’s Executive Director, Peter Tsiamalili Jnr has said that a budget of K10 million will be assigned for the rollout of the seventh PNG Games in Kimbe, West New Britain.
Tsiamalili spoke of the foundation’s role in assisting with preparations for the PNG Games in an interview with EMTV Sports yesterday.
While the budget for the PNG Games is yet to be confirmed, an estimate of K10 million is expected to cater for the preparations and upgrading of facilities in Kimbe.
Tsiamlili says K2 million will be assigned for administrative preparations, and K8 million to the sporting infrastructure.
The small town of Kimbe has one main sporting arena, where a multi-purpose rugby field hosts rugby league and rugby union matches, and a run-down basketball court.
Tsiamalili has said that due to the volume of the PNG Games and provinces attending, round robin matches of each code may have to be played outside of the main township.
But Tsiamalili says their biggest concern will be in meeting the logistical demands of the Games.
Although logistically challenged, the PNG Games is a go-ahead, with the Host Organising Committee confident in delivering the games on schedule.
