Judo Look Forward

by Dion Kombeng – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

The sport of Judo has not been included as one of the 28 sports to be showcased at the 2015 Pacific Games next month.

President of the Papua New Guinea Judo Union, John Jambert, says they have bigger plans for Judo in the coming years and is adamant they will excel in other Pacific Games to come.

The sport’s popularity is growing; not only in the country alone, but also in the Oceania region and the International Judo Federation plans to see the interest and participation develop further.

Judo can be used not only as a sport, but as an educational tool to develop youth throughout the country.

Head of Media and Judo for Peace, Nicolas Messner, believes the sport of Judo teaches valuable qualities to participants.

The more people get involved in the sport of Judo, the more the union can expand and more talent may be identified.

The PNG Judo Union is working closely with the International Judo Federation and the Oceania Judo Union to be able to provide proper development for the sport.
