The country’s biggest off-season competition, the Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup begins its annual tournament this weekend in NCD.
This Friday, the Southern Leg of the tournament will kick-off with the NCD challenge, and the Central Challenge to follow next Thursday.
The Coca-cola Ipatas cup Southern Leg is set to kick off with 16 teams in the National Capital District challenge vying for a gold pass into the Ipatas Cup.
For the Central Challenge, eight teams have been confirmed and their tournament will kick off on Thursday next week where the eight teams also will be vying for a gold pass.
“But this year, we don’t bring the central teams to participate in Kwikila, everything will be hosted in NCD” Southern Leg Coordinator, Simon Maima said.
The teams gathered at the Granville Motel today (Wednesday, December 12), for a briefing before the NCD Challenge kicks offs on Friday.
The 16 NCD teams will be in four pools, while the Central teams will be in two pools, the two challenges will start the finals on the 22nd of December.
The Central teams from the Central Province have been caught up in other trials and tournaments and could not make the central challenge, however, the Southern leg Ipatas Cup committee has decided to pick teams that are in close proximity to the central province to take part.
Both Central and NCD challenge will be played in Port Moresby, at the PNG Football stadium located within the Sir John Guise Stadium.
