Inquiry into ABG Chief Secretary’s contract

By Fabian Hakalits – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Autonomous Bougainville Government President, Chief Dr John Momis, says the contract of Chief Secretary to the Autonomous Bougainville Government, Monovi Amani, will be decided by the Bougainville Senior Appointments Committee.

Chief Momis revealed this to the Bougainville House of Representatives when responding to questions raised by the Member for Tonsu, Izikiel Masat.

Chief Momis said the Independent Report will decide whether Amani will be terminated or allowed to continue as Chief Secretary.

Amani was requested to go on leave awaiting the inquiry following serious allegations against him over his conduct in office.

Last month, the Bougainville Executive Council has appointed Paul Kebori as Acting Chief Secretary and Head of the Bougainville Public Service.

President Momis said Mr Kebori will be acting, until such time, the substantive office-holder resumes duty or for a six months period.

It’s understood, the Bougainville Executive Council’s decision is a direct result of a petition calling for an investigation into allegations of misconduct by the Chief Secretary, Monovi Amani.
