Hot Spot Episode – 21, 2014

On Hot Spot this week, the NCD Taekwondo Championships were held at the Salvation Army Hall, attracting a total of 20 clubs. 

Athletes battled it out in the Men’s 68, 58 and 54kg categories and the Women’s 67, 57 and 49 weight categories.

 

15 year-old Rehab Loi from the Caritas Taekwondo club competed against Rosemary Tona, younger sister of National Champion for Women’s 49 kg, Theresa Tona.

 

The second leg of the Championships will be held this Saturday at the Salvation Army Hall in Boroko.

 

Port Moresby Grammar beat Ela Murray in the U-14 division Gold Nugget School Cricket Grand Final this week, joining Gordon International School in the inaugural competition.

 

The Gold Nugget School Cricket program in Lae is into their 5th week of competition.

 

Pacific Games Mascot Tura the Kokomo donated K2, 000 to the Cancer Foundation this week.

 

Concerning the venue issues, the Infrastructure and Equipment Committee announced the La Salle Hohola youth Development Centre as an alternative for athletes to use after the presentation of a multi-purpose ring.

 

With FIFA news, after round 1, Brazil, Netherlands, Costa Rica, France and Belgium hold the lead in their respective pools.

 

And the biggest Sporting and Social event in the South Pacific, the Trukai Fun Run will be on again this Sunday with 10 centres throughout the country.

 

Makerupu Village, along the Aroma Coast, is to participate this year.
