Help is on the way for Bougainville Atolls

Following the airing of a story on EMTV News regarding the plight faced by islanders living on the atolls in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, this week, some good news for the islanders. Following a meeting between leaders from the Bougainville Atolls Foundation, and the Member for North Bougainville, a commitment has been made to provide some relief to islanders in the weeks ahead.

On Friday, leaders from the Bougainville Atolls Foundation made a plea through EMTV News for support in providing much needed services to their communities in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. Among their concerns, a lack of access to shipping services, and communication.

On Monday this week, North Bougainville MP, William Nakin, met with representatives from the Bougainville Atolls Foundation, to offer support for the island communities of including Nissan, Mortlock, Fead and Tasman Islands.

Commitments in the areas of shipping transportation, and communication.
With the commitment from North Bougainville MP William Nakin, the immediate focus now will be to transport teachers currently stranded on Buka, to the islands, and for stranded students on the Atolls to Buka, to allow them to attend schools.
In light of the commitment made this week, Leaders from the Bougainville Atolls Foundation thanked the North Bougainville MP, and were optimistic of more support into the future.
