The Telikom National Soccer League game between nine time NSL champions, Hekari United, and Welgris Morobe United yesterday saw the reds defeating Welgris by the commanding margin of 5-0.
Hekari United will now face their strongest rival and last year’s cup winner Lae City Dwellers, who also thrashed PRK Rapatona 5-0 over in Lae.
Hekari Striker Tommy Semmy was on fire, with numerous attempts at goal, before a build-up play form the midfield set up Semmy with the opening goal.
And the Reds kept the pressure on Welgris’ end of the field with the vocal midfield lead by Captain, David Muta, picking out his attacking forwards that saw Semmy grabbing his second.
Welgris fought back, spreading the ball out wide with Becken Yanum and Sammy Hiob, which kept the pressure on Hekari’s back line defence.
However, Hekari’s new signing Felix Komolong and central defender Tekieta Rumuera kept the attacking side at bay.
The return of utility midfielder Tutizama Tanito was a boost to the team with his impressive running pass that got himself a goal under his name.
