The recent reconciliation between Kikori MP Mark Maipakai, Kerema MP Richard Mendani and Gulf Governor Havila Kavo was short-lived.
Mr Maipakai and Mr Mendani, together with several local level leaders from Gulf province have called on Governor Havila Kavo to step down from public office in order to restore confidence and integrity to the office of the Gulf Governor.
Mr Maipakai and Mr Mendani, together with several local level government leaders from the Gulf Province, called a media conference this afternoon to vent concerns.
They said the recent reconciliation between them and Governor Kavo ended bitterly yesterday in the provincial capital of Kerema.
Their differences arose again when the agenda at yesterday’s provincial assembly meeting changed.
Instead of prioritising discussions on the provincial budget, these leaders said they were shocked to see that the first issue on the agenda was to get appointed members into the chamber.
Mr Maipakai and the leaders claim that this was a power plan on the part of the Governor in order to get numbers in his favour.
The leaders said that even the vote was concluded in a clearly biased manner. At this point Mr Maipakai and these leaders walked out of the chamber in protest.
The leaders have now drafted letters to the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister for Inter-government Relations, Leo Dion, the Ombudsman Commission and the Public Prosecutor to look into the actions of Mr Kavo.
