Leaders from the Gulf Province have petitioned for the Prime Minister to address the political saga back in the province.
They said Gulf Province is in adverse political state after Havila Kavo continues to occupy the position of Governor despite the court ruling.
Gulf Provincial Members includes Kikori Open MP Mark Maipakai, Kerema Open MP Richard Mendani and ten Local Level Government Presidents have presented a petition to the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to look into resolving the political saga in the province.
They claimed that despite the court declaring a Va’ancy in the position of the Governor, Havila Kavo, continues to occupy the position after the Justice Minister and Minister for Provincial affairs recognises Jimmy Pokara as acting Governor.
They said this impasse is causing delay and anxiety among the Gulf people after receiving favorable response by Joint Venture partners of key project infrastructure sites for the Elk and Antelope gas project, and the location of PNG’s second LNG export plant in the Caution Bay.
A list of preconditions was submitted to the Prime Minister to immediately come clear on the National Government’s position on this project.
Meanwhile, they have appealed to the people of Gulf Province to remain calm and follow the rule of law while negotiation is underway with the National Government to resolve this issue.
