H.E. Grand Chief Sir Bob Bofeng Dadae, GCL, GCMG, KStJ, Governor General of Papua New Guinea, today received a congratulatory message from the President of the United States of America Donald Trump, on the occasion of our nation’s 43rd Independence Anniversary.
President Trump wrote, “On behalf of the American people, I congratulate you and the citizens of Papua New Guinea as you mark your 43rd Independence Day on September 16. The United States and Papua New Guinea’s relationship is founded on our shared goals of democratic governance, inclusive economic growth, and a free and open Indo-Pacific. We commend Papua New Guinea for hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Corporation forum and look forward to a successful Leaders’ Week in November. We are also eager to further our engagement on women’s participation in the political and economic sectors, advancing security cooperation, and deepening commercial ties. I wish you and all Papua New Guineans a joyous Independence Day.”
Grand Chief Sir Bob said, since establishing diplomatic ties with the USA in 1975, the close relationship between PNG and USA continues to grow from strength to strength as demonstrated by the increased high level visits by US Leaders and Senior Government Officials in recent years which is testament to the importance and high level of political commitment that the US Government attaches to its ties with Papua New Guinea.
“Papua New Guinea is fully aware of the United States continued efforts to maintaining global peace and security and anti-terrorism among other issues, and supports America’s endeavours and the importance it places on regional security as tantamount to stability in the region,” the Governor General said.
