The Be–election for the Kairuku-Hiri Seat is well underway followingthe issue of writs by Governor General Sir Michael Ogio at Government House this morning.
This means nominations will proceed and close next Wednesday 27th Novermber, and bythen,the Electoral Commission will knowthe exact number of candidates contestingthe Kairuku-Hiri Seat.
K4 million has been allocated to runthe Elections and both have assured that allowances for Election Officers won’t be a problem as it is covered inthe initial K4 million budget.
TheReturning Officer for the Kairuku-Hiri Election isthe Election Manager for Central, Kila Egaba, whilethe AssistantReturning Officers for the four LLG’s inthe Kairuku-Hiri Electorate, are Mario Manai for Kairuku, George Maino for Mekeo, Karo Tiana for Hiri, and Alfred Kennedy for Koiari LLG.
The Kairuku-Hiri seat was previously held by former MP Paru Aihi until he was ousted following a successful election petition against him by runner – up inthe 2012 Elections, Peter Isoaimo.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Trawen gave an update onthe by–elections in Madang and Ambunti–Dreikikir, sayingthey were all progressing well.
