Gerehu-Morata Road Opened to Ease Traffic Congestion

by Eric Haurupma – EM TV News, Port Moresby

A new road connecting Morata and Gerehu residential areas in the nation’s capital was officially opened yesterday.

NCDC Pacific Games Consultant said this road will ease congestions for residents during the Pacific games.

NCDC through Governor, Powes Parkop, said this is to avoid spending long hours in the chronic traffic queue.

According to Pacific Games Secretariat Consultant, Sallyanne Mokis, this route will make travelling more convenient route for the general public.

Mokis said the governor and city management are concerned for the residents, especially at Gerehu.

She said given the amount of traffic jam within the city, NCDC is addressing the problem through this new route.

Mokis said road users will not be at risks because there will be youths from Morata manning the route alongside a heavy police presence carrying out regular patrols.

Residents living in Gerehu, Morata and the surrounding areas are encouraged to use this road.
