The Role of Men and Youth in combating gender based violence, was a special discussion topic during the recently held women’s forum in Port Moresby.
Founder of Warrior Culture, Men Against Family Violence Eddie Aila, was part of the panel. He said there is a need to break down the “Big Men” mentality through more awareness.
Gender based violence is a growing concern in Papua New Guinea and it is estimated that a 2.3 million women, experience family violence.
In most cases, the concern automatically goes out to the victim, but what about the perpetrator, leaves a question, and is where the warrior culture comes in.
To go back to the root cause of the problem, a holistic approach of sitting down with the perpetrators will help change their mindsets.
Mr. Aila has conducted various workshops that focus on self-transformation. Participants share, learn and become advocates by discussing issues openly.
