Games Organising Committee to Glasgow

A three-man Sports Executive Delegation is in Glasgow, Scotland for the 2014 Commonwealth Games Chef de Mission meeting to be briefed on the details of the Games.

The Delegation led by 2015 Pacific Games Organising Committee Chairperson and Team PNG Chef de Mission, Emma Waiwai, will be among Chef de Missions from 71 countries attending the meeting which will run from the 28th-31st of January 2014.

The trip will be a bonus for the 2015 Pacific Games Organising Committee staff, Sinedou Basinauro and Salote Doko, who will be attending as observers.   

Waiwai said in a statement that it is important PNG is represented at the meeting to be briefed on the planning details which will come into effect in 2015.

She said PNG will lift standards at the 2015 Pacific Games in its planning. The infrastructure being developed and together with legacy programs, it will bring the games to the next level.

Waiwai reiterated, 2014 is the year of action in preparation for 2015 Games and Planning for this event is of great importance.

Waiwai, who is also the member of the PNG Olympic Committee Executive Board, said having the GOC staff at the meeting as observers will help them learn about accreditation and other aspects of running the games.

The delegation also has the opportunity to see the final preparation of the Glasgow Games.

Papua New Guinea will be competing in 10 sports, including Para-powerlifting and Para-athletics. All Sports are preparing their athletes for the Glasgow Games and will go through screening processes before team PNG is named.
