Acting Secretary for Finance, Dr Ken Ngangan, off camera, confirmed that funds for the flood affected provinces have already been released while the funds for Madang Open bi–election, would be released once Treasury issues the warrant.
Dr Ngangan made these remarks after receiving 10 sets of computers and printers from Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The office equipment will be used to support the Finance Department’s Non – Tax Revenue Division.
Packed in these boxes are the 10 sets of computers and printers to support the Non – Tax Revenue Division in partnership with the Australian government’s program on Economic and Public Sector Program.
Of the 10, two will be given to the new provinces of Hela and Jiwaka, while the rest will be distributed to all foreign missions and government departments that collect non – tax revenue or service fees.
In the past years, it was discovered that large sums of non tax revenue were not accounted for, thus the need for the computerised receipting system aimed at addressing this problem.
The concept is in line with the Finance Department’s cashless policy to ensure all service fees are accounted for.
