Fire Service Need Better Attention, says Former Chief Fire Officer

Outgoing Chief Fire Officer, Isaac Silas, says hosting international events should not be the excuse in beefing-up the support Fire Service needs.

Speaking today, Mr Silas said the review of the Fire Service Corporate Plan must effectively be carried out. He said this will strengthen its capabilities in performing their responsibilities.

Among the challenges and achievements in his career, he wants the Fire Service Corporate Plan and Fire Service Act be complete to elevate this Government Department.

The outgoing Chief Fire Officer has served 32 years in the Fire Service Department.

For the past two years, the Fire Service has come under immense pressure and public criticism over its capability in carrying out its responsibilities.

Recently appointed Acting Chief Fire Officer, Bill Roo, says the Corporate Plan and Fire Service Act is vital.

The current resources the Fire Service have is not to standard but this Government agency is putting all its effort to serve the public.

With APEC and Under 20 FIFA Women’s around the corner, Fire Service aims to build its capacity.

The Fire Service believes if the national government pays more attention to the role which the Department plays, its services will improve with better standards.
