Another fire in Lae last night has destroyed the old office of what used to be Kambang holdings, LD Logistics and a trade store and restaurant.
The fire is the latest in a series that has caused businesses to lose thousands of kina worth of properties.
Eyewitnesses say the fire, may have been caused by a blackout.
“There was a blackout for a while…when the power was restored, black smoke followed soon after. We blamed the PNG Power the fire…” said Ricky Skipper, an eye witness.
Smoke bellowed from the rear of the building at around 9 am last night.
The fire team, arrived an hour later, was left with little hope of controlling the fire, that had already engulfed a large part of the building.
This isn’t the first fire in Lae.
Two months ago, Brian bell home center, Pelgens, the G4S headquarters and Daltron were destroyed in a similar fashion.
All the businesses lost millions of kina worth of assets.
Another fire in Hagen on Wednesday night has again brought the ability of the PNG Fire service into question.
The public remains skeptical about the emergency services in the Papua New Guinea.
