Final 15 Member Squad For U19 Nines In Glasglow

The PNG Rugby Football League introduced a final 15 member squad for the U19 Nines Rugby League championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Rugby Nines format will be an exhibition tournament for possible medals games come the next Commonwealth Games.

Among selected players were only two from the Highlands Zone which made it into the squad.

The two players are Joel Kapia Kee, attending Kerewogi Secondary School in Simbu Province, and Lavax Ketauwo from Asaroka Secondary School, in the Eastern Province, were fortunate to make the final cut.

Ketauwo was part of the School Boys development program that had a successful tour down South last year.

All 15 players were the cream of the respective PNGRFL sanctioned Junior development programs in four regions of the country.

A perfect combination of footy skills and abilities were shown during the trials, as well as physique was noted to give the other competitors a run for their money.

It is an opportunity bestowed on these young guns to rise up to the occasion and be groomed physically, and also develops a career pathway in the sport while awaiting more international duty call-ups.

A week-long camp will be staged in Port Moresby before the team departs for Glasgow on Saturday via Singapore to Dubai, and touch down in Glasgow on Monday before the championships on the 27th to 28th of June.
