Team PNG Athletes and officials have taken up residence in the Games Village. They will call it home for the next two weeks.
A farewell ceremony was held at the Murray Barracks oval, where family and friends bid farewell to their loved ones.
Athletes stood in line, led in by the Papua New Guinea Defense force band and Commander Brigadier General, Gilbert Toropo.
The Pacific games relay baton also made its way to the Murray Barracks and was handed over from soldiers to the Minister for Sport, Justin Tkatchenko, than was presented to PNG Chef de mission, Richard Kassman.
Mr Kassman also had a few words to say to the athletes before they move into the games village and the start of the games.
Also during the event, Papua New Guineas Flag bearer for the Pacific games was announced by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.
The 3 Pacific Games chants were also sung last night with a wonderful display of fireworks
