The potential to export energy out of Papua New Guinea has been highlighted as a possible major industry over the coming years. However, to ensure this, there has to be policy in place to guide how these energy sources are best developed.
With this in mind, two key government departments have combined their s to spearhead the development of the country’s National Energy Policy.
PNG is blessed with an abundant range of energy sources to choose from, and there is now a push to create a policy to oversee the development of these sources.
The Department of Public Enterprises, together with the Department of Petroleum and Energy today hosted the final consultative workshop on the National Energy Policy.
With the theme ‘Transforming the Energy to secure PNG’s Prosperity’, participants were encouraged to put forward ideas that could assist in ensuring the policy catered for all stakeholders.
According to Ben Micah, Minister for the Department of Public Enterprises, they are hopeful of having the policy presented and approved by the National Executive Council and tabled in parliament during the November sitting.
