The distribution of the 2017 standard based curriculum materials for elementary schools throughout the country commenced today, starting with NCD schools.
This comes after the official launching of the elementary SBC this morning by Education Minister, Nick Kuman; Secretary Dr Uke Kombra; Education Department officials, developing partners JICA and DFAT were present at Tokiya Warehouse in Port Moresby to witness the launching.
It has taken the Education Curriculum Development officials three years to complete the Standard Base Curriculum for elementary schools, which will be delivered to schools throughout Papua New Guinea.
Department of Education, Curriculum Development Division Assistant Secretary, Steven Tandale, said the elementary SBC had to follow approval processes before it could be documented for use by schools.
The Launching for the elementary SBC was officiated at Tokiya Warehouse at 6-Mile in Port Moresby.
NCD, Central and Gulf are currently transporting their materials to their respective schools.
There are a total of 16,500 kits which are not sufficient and for equal distribution among the 34,000 elementary school teachers, therefore one kit will be shared among three teachers.
He further adds that the problem is with the timings of these materials, and when they will be delivered to all schools.
Tandale said toward to end of February or March all the kits should be able to be delivered by shipping to main ports like Lae for schools in Highlands, and Momase Regions, and Rabaul for the New Guinea Islands.
