The Oil Search Games Relay, launched last week, made its way to Vanimo for the first leg of the Games Relay national tour.
The Baton will visit the East New Britain Province for three days, and will travel throughout the four districts from the 14th – 17th of June.
ENBP Relay Coordinator, Jelta Wong, plans to use the relay as an opportunity to showcase the province’s historical sights. Apart from memorial sites situated in Rabaul town, the relay’s visit will also comprise of a number of tours to renowned tourism attractions, which include Mt. Tavurvur, and the Rababa Hot Springs in Matupit.
The first two days of the tour will see the relay team visit East New Britain’s landmarks, and the third and final day will see the proceedings of the baton relay take place.
To date, the committee has only received K5,000.00 from the Pacific Games to run the three day tour.
However, Jelta says, they are currently working on proposing ideas to several businesses within the private sector, to drive the event.
“We try to push the private sector a lot, because it’s showcasing the place where they are doing business,” said Jelta.
