More than 200 cyclists of all age groups took part in the Pacific Industries Bicycle Race yesterday in East New Britain Province, despite bad weather.
The main highlight of the day was the 33 kilometres senior men and women race from Kokopo to Rabaul town.
While the under 15 and junior categories began their race at Raluana and Rabaul Check point respectively.
While many didn’t take part in the event, those who participated say it was nothing less than impressive.
Although the competitors turned up in large numbers, only a few made it through to the finish line.
The two-hour journey on bicycles from Kokopo to Rabaul is one long journey, which has brought pain and stress on many cyclists.
For some, it was the prize that they were after, while others; it was 2 hours of intense fun.
The Pacific Industries bicycle race remains a major community activity in East New Britain province. It occurs yearly on a public holiday, celebrating the Queen’s Birthday.
