Deputy Secretary, Standards and Learning from the National Education Department, Dr Eliakim Apelis says that primary teaching courses are currently under review.
Dr Apelis made these remarks at the closing of the Early Childhood Curriculum Development Mobilisation Workshop in Port Moresby.
He pointed out that standards are the focus of the review aimed at improving teacher training.
He told the participants and representatives attending the event that the National Education Department has embarked on Standard Based Curriculum.
Dr Apelis says teacher education will be embraced through training and development for elementary and primary schools.
From 2016 onwards, he said that the National Education Department will embark in setting standards, in terms of infrastructure, qualification and issues encountered by educational institutions.
What’s to be captured, in curriculum development is the actual standards, which Dr Apelis says aims to assess students performances.
This is to ensure for quality education for teachers and students.
