A healthy mind will be productive in the line of duty. Psychiatrist Dr. Uma Ambi, told EMTV News that organisations must not neglect the importance of mental health.
Dr. Ambi made this statement as the World celebrated World Mental Health Day today. This year’s World Mental Health Day is focused on creating a healthy workforce, by promoting mental health in organisations.
According to Dr Ambi, studies have proven that depression has caused mental disorders in most work places. This has resulted in employees turning to illicit drugs, alcohol or social entertainment.
But Dr. Ambi said mental illnesses can be treated, and are not necessarily dependent on money.
Celebrations were held in Manus, Madang, East New Britain and Morobe provinces, including NCD.
Dr. Ambi said many organisations are seeking help through the PNG Psychiatric Association, but she is urging for a joint effort to help those who neglect this vital assistance.
The National Government has passed the Workforce Policy to promote Mental Health, however more effort is needed to embrace the policy.
