As part of the government’s Vision 2050 plan, the Papua New Guinea Defence Force will be increased to 5, 000 members by 2017.
However, the policy of recruiting new officers to the force was questioned today in parliament by member for South Fly, Aide Ganasi.
Ganasi questioned Minister for Defence, Dr Fabian Pok, on the recruitment policies the Defence Force is using to recruit new intakes.
He asked the Minister to clarify why recruitments were only done in major centres in the country and what the ministry had done to ensure that PNG was well represented in the Defence Force.
Minister for Defence, Dr Fabian Pok, said he had directed the commander for defence to look at how recruitment can be done in all parts of the country as well as a new policy for that.
The minister assured all members of parliament that a new policy regarding how recruitments will be conducted will be out soon, which will involve all districts in the country.
