Community without Water

By Adelaide Kari – EM TV News, Port Moresby

An angry community, 4mile works settlement, met with Eda Ranu today to discuss the reconnection of their water supply.

They complained that they haven’t washed for days, and the community’s main washing and bathroom facility has become extremely unhygienic.

Eda Ranu Community Relations Officer, Henry Yule, said the 4Mile works settlement had illegal connections and the company had to shut the water down due to low water levels at Sirinamu Dam.

He also stressed that water was not free, even though it was a right for people to have access to water.

Eda Ranu is now scheduling a Memorandum of Understanding signing with community leaders to have water taps where the community will pay bills.

But the 4mile settlers are complaining that water should be open because it was a need.

The community will meet with Eda Ranu tomorrow to discuss options of the water being allowed to flow again.
