Chinese Government Gives 133 vehicles for 2017 National Elections

133 vehicles were donated by the Chinese Government to provide logistics and support for the 2017 National Elections.

The vehicles arrived in Port Moresby yesterday, were transported to Murray Barracks in Port Moresby to be officially handed over by the Chinese Government to the Papua New Guinea Government.

Present to witness the event were Electoral Commissioner, Patilias Gamato, Department of Planning Secretary, Hakaua Harry, Chinese Government officials and other guests.

Charge dā€™ Affairs of China, Wang Genhua, while speaking at the event, said these vehicles will enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.

These vehicles were donated by the Chinese Government upon request by the Department of Planning and Monitoring to facilitate logistics and support for the 2017 National Elections.

Mr. Gamato said the elections are a major exercise, and this will help a lot in managing costs and assisting election officials get to places accessible by road.

The PNG Defense Force, Police and Correctional Service will get 15 of these vehicles each to provide security during elections.
