Child among 5 killed in fire in Enga

A child is among five people who died in a house fire early this morning in Yampu Village, Enga province.

An eyewitness, Saki Wakan, said the incident occurred at about 1 o’clock this morning.  The charred bodies of a  50-year-old mother, her  two sons aged 22  and  11 as well as her  19-year-old daughter were recovered from the site.

The father of the family   sustained severe burns to his back while trying to escape the blaze.

The cause of the fire has not been established. Police detectives have been sent to investigate the possible cause of the fire.

The Provincial Police Commander for Enga, Superintendent George Kakas told EMTV it was a murder-arson case with strong leads for the suspects’ capture.
