Caritas Helps Highlands Victims

General Secretary for the Catholic Bishops Conference of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands (CBD), Fr Victor Roche, today announced that Caritas PNG will assist people affected by severe drought and frost in the Highlands region.

Four diocese’s in the Archdiocese of Mt Hagen have provided reports on this matter, that was submitted to the Catholic Bishops Conference.

According to Fr Victor, detailed reports were received and a decision was made for the immediate relief assistance.

K20,000 will be given as assistance aid for the victims of frost in the Highlands.

Fr Victor said that the Catholic Church is working hand in hand with the National and Provincial Disaster officials on site to plan and work out, how such an exercise will be carried out in the region.

Assistance will be given in areas of dire need to ensure that people receive needed services.

Fr Victor called on the National Government to take the matter seriously and look after the needs of its citizens.
