Disability advocate, Brown Kapi says, the government’s decision for the official use of sign language and disability policy is a breakthrough for the people living with disabilities
Mr Kapi said for too long this group of people have been marginalised. However, he questioned the implementation process in pushing this policy.
The Founder of Kapi Foundation, who has been the voice of People Living With Disabilities says, for years this group of people have been neglected by the government.
Mr Kapi raised concerns on the government’s capacity in making these policies workable, throughout the country.
He is one of the few in the country, pushing for equal rights for people living with disabilities. He says, if the government can take a step further in legislating the policy, it would give the “legal teeth” for the policy.
The policy will be launched by Community Development Minister, Delilah Gore, on the 27th of May at the Parliament’s State Function Room.
